Literary stewardship + production
Stoep Collective leads the production design for New Contrast, South Africa’s oldest literary magazine
Our long-standing partnership with this landmark African literary journal has seen Megan Natasha Ross of Stoep Collective oversee production design for almost seven years. We are proud of our association with this much-beloved literary journal, whose legacy spans generations of writers, editors and artists, including Nobel Prize winner, J.M. Coetzee, Zoë Wicomb, Diana Ferrus + more.
Our work supports the magazine’s ongoing life both digitally and in print: shaping each issue while honouring its place in South Africa — and a global — literary culture.

“So many of us in this time have turned to words. Words crafted against the impossible, words written in one’s own voice, words spoken in person, conveyed to others by video and audio, words across time zones, listened to, held onto. This is what we give one another and to all those who feel the steep scale of grief in the face of death. Words to lean our bodies against.”

“In this gathering of excellent writing, bidding goodbye to a beloved poet and a beloved novelist, I find solace in the piercing details of the issue’s poems and stories, with their great arc of universality, and the way they revisit the ancient themes of beginnings and endings to bring us again to the present tense.”
